Vampire Knight: Anime Adaption
Vampire Knight is a Japanese anime created and illustrated by Masturi Hino. The anime adaptation was based on Matsuri’s manga series Vampire Knight. The adaptation was released in 2008.
Its about 15 year- old- girl, named Yuki Cross who has no memory of her life before Kaname Kuran saved her from a dangerous vampire , 10 years prior.
When I think of this anime I realize two things about myself and the anime community. We have selective taste based on what we enjoy. This anime is for fans that enjoy love triangles and beautiful vampires.

However, as a former lover of this series. I still have a bone to pick with it because, of its severe weak points. The manga series compensates for the anime adaption’s weaknesses which helps the audience the female lead.
This still does not excuse that Vampire Knight is a popular anime on the basis of the aesthetic of its characters and some of its technical elements.

The plot and the character development could be considered quite poor. Even though it has the elements to have a good story, it appears the female lead, Yuki Cross, fails to act as a protagonist.
The plot does not allow Yuki to appear as an individual regardless of speaking of her personal convictions. I think the issue would be with the plot and the male leads.
The male leads, Kaname Kuran and Zero Kiryuu are two complicated characters that are fighting their own demons and gunning for the affection of the same woman.
Even though it shows their attraction to Yuki. It does not reflect on who Yuki is? It also makes the audience question Yuki’s worth because, she appears to not have a solid identity within herself.
This creates a complicated relationship with the female protagonist and the audience. The side characters are suppose to show why the audience should treat the protagonist of the story well. The story in the anime adaption fails to do this because, it appears that the connection between each character is Kaname Kuran. Who tries to act as a background character, but has the presence and ability to be the male protagonist of the story.
The anime adaption has failed to accommodate for the story of Yuki Cross. Yet, it has given doors for the Manga series to compensate for this factor. We are able to understand and appreciate Yuki for who she truly is.
My final verdict:
I would give this a 5/10. I loved the technical elements and also the general theme of anime. If you love vampires and troubling love stories. You can watch it and find out for yourself.
