Classroom of the Elite is a psychological thriller anime with 12 episodes.
The anime adaptation has 12 episodes with an enchanting art style. From its backgrounds to the character’s multi-coloured eyes Kinugase the anime draws the audience in with the lulling effect of its music.
The first episode shows the viewer a single glimpse of the outside world whilst the rest of the anime is centred around Tokyo Metropolitan Advanced Nurturing High School.
The school merits students through the use of a point system called the S-system. The S-system assess the students in real-time and assigns them a numerical value. That numerical value is dependant on the general behaviour and academic performance of the students. Each student is given 100 points individually, which means each class receives a total of 1000 class points.
The 1000 class points are given to the students in the first episode and, every month students will be allocated points. However, members of D-class were reckless expenditure and poor academic performance threatened their chances of being allocated points. Class D was awarded 0 points due to the overall behaviour. This is where the anime becomes interesting.
Kinugase presents a world that appears to be an ‘ideal utopia’ however that ‘ideal utopia’ is in questions when we are presented by the self-insert character Ayanokoji. As the viewer, Ayanokoji is an active spectator in every episode but this tactic creates a strange appeal around him. As the episodes progress other characters confide in him and call him their friend.
His unassuming nature is what favours him amongst his others however, this also makes him appear as an innocent character. By the end of the anime, Ayanokoji’s intentions are revealed leaving the
the viewer on a cliffhanger.
The consensus
The premise of Classroom of the Elite is consistent with the flaw of the lack of resolution. It was able to make me question my understanding of the anime.
Although I would not recommend this anime to due to the lack of resolution. I know many people that love and that knows how satisfies its viewer.
I will give it 8/10.
